Material Overview

PC-FR is a flame-retardant polycarbonate-based engineering thermoplastic developed for FDM components used near electrical systems, heat sources and applications with defined fire-behaviour requirements. The polycarbonate base provides toughness, impact resistance, mechanical strength and useful elevated-temperature performance, while flame-retardant additives reduce flame propagation and can support self-extinguishing behaviour in tested formulations. Final performance depends on the exact material grade, specimen thickness, part geometry, print orientation, processing conditions and applicable fire-test method.

Material Selection Note

PC-FR is suitable when polycarbonate toughness, mechanical strength and heat resistance must be combined with controlled flame-retardant behaviour. The designation PC-FR alone does not confirm a universal UL rating or certify every printed component. Fire classification depends on the exact material grade, specimen thickness, print orientation, conditioning and test method. Gramm reviews the supplier documentation, required fire classification, wall thickness, mechanical load, operating temperature, electrical environment, geometry and production strategy before manufacturing.
